「信頼の上に正しい規律をつくること」という一節に対する適訳は、
establishing discipline that is correct, and based on trust
です。この例では、「correct」および「based on trust」が、修飾対象名詞「discipline」の後に置かれているのがポイントです。「correct and based on trust discipline」という表現は、文法的には正しくありませんが、最も重要なのは、「correct」と「based on trust」を「discipline」の後に置くことによって、日本語の「信頼の上に正しい」という表現と同等の強調感を出していることです。
beneficial in terms of
スピーチにおける「『…環境にやさしい』に役に立つ技術と商品で世界に発信する。」という一文を英訳するなら、
... produce and export to global markets products and technologies that are beneficial in terms of being environment-friendly
が適切です。
effective in terms of
修飾する名詞の後に形容詞を置くことが特に重要な場合の顕著な例として、「特に近年、血行促進の有効成分として、竹酢酸や木酢酸が注目されている。」という一文が挙げられます。この一文の英訳としては、
In recent years, bamboo vinegar and wood vinegar have been noted as an effective component relating to the facilitation of blood circulation.
よりも、
Particularly in recent years, bamboo vinegar and wood vinegar have attracted attention as components that are effective in terms of the facilitation of blood circulation.
の方がはるかに好ましいでしょう。形容詞「effective」は副詞句「in terms of the facilitation of blood circulation」と修飾関係にあるので、「effective」と「component」とを切り離して、「effective in terms of the facilitation of blood circulation」とするのが、和文の意味合いを伝える唯一自然な英語表現です。「relating to」を使った最初の訳文も和文の意味に近いようには見えますが、文法的に欠陥があります。
「Xは特に光や熱に弱い感熱紙を用紙として採用する場合に有用であった。」という一文に対する適訳も同様で、
X has proved effective in terms of handling, as paper sheets for the printer unit, heat sensitive sheets that are susceptible to light or heat.
です。
advantageous insofar that
「Xの有する高い断熱性によりスチームの熱エネルギーを無駄に消費することがなく、かつ、サイクルタイムの短縮が可能であるなどの利点がある。」という一文を英訳するなら、
X provides advantages that
という表現を使うよりも、
X is advantageous insofar that its high heat insulating property prevents waste in consumption of thermal energy possessed by steam, and other merits include reductions in cycle times.
