ではなく、
since the time in 1992 that treatment administered exclusively with interferon (IFN) was approved for coverage under the medical scheme in Japan
とするか、もう少し簡潔に、
since the time in 1992 that treatment administered exclusively with interferon (IFN) was approved for coverage by medical insurance in Japan
とすれば良いでしょう。この例文における「単独療法」を「independent treatment」と訳すべきではなく、「exclusive treatment」または「treatment administered exclusively with」が適切です。
「得意なところを伸ばしていく」という一節を英訳するなら、
to enhance (あるいは「expand」) further our own areas of particular competence
が適切です。
「各海外法人の得意なところを使って世界全体で組み上げていく体質にしなければなりません。」という一文なら、
We must take full advantage of the strengths of our various overseas corporations, and build their combined strengths into a structure that will constitute a global network.
と訳すのが適切です。
「日本は独自の商慣習を持っている。」という一文を英訳するなら、
Japan has its own original business customs.
よりも、
Japan has its own particular business customs.
の方が適切です。
スピーチの一部である「一人前になるまでには時間が必要です」という一節を英訳するなら、
a period of time is necessary before a person becomes truly effective
が妥当です。
「品質を落とさずにコスト競争力の一層の強化を図ることが急務である。」という一文を英訳するなら、
It is absolutely essential, and urgent, that the competitiveness of the company’s products be bolstered further, without detracting from their quality.
が適切です。「without」の前のコンマは特に重要で、「without detracting from their quality」を和文の「品質を落とさずに」と同程度に強調する役割を果たしています。 |
